Our life was nice and peaceful--husband, wife, 2.5 kids, and a dog. Actually, 2 kids--how does a person have a 1/2 kid? Anyway, in September we mixed things up a bit, got away from the typical family...we added another dog.
What were we thinking? We bought a Pekinese-Cavalier five month old puppy listed in the classifieds for $50. Somehow, Ed ended up paying $70--don't know how that happened. The guy who sold him had a whole pack of dogs..so Buddy ran with a pack. He didn't know his name since he ran in a pack...so we renamed him Joey. Remember Joey from the TV show Friends? Kind of fun loving and dumb? Well, that's our Joey..fun loving and dumb. It took a good 6-8 weeks to learn his name. He gobbles up his food in about 10-20 seconds, sits and patiently watches Alex eat his food.

Then, cleans off the "dog table". He moves his bowl, Alex's bowl, the water bowl and makes sure every single piece of food is gone.

We figure he is a fast eater because he ran in a pack--had to fight for his food. Joey totally disrupted our calm, well-behaved Bichon-Poodle's life. Alex's life is now upside down with Joey in it. No more taking two pieces of food and strategically placing them in the living room to savor later. They disappear. No more sleeping in his bed without a disruption. No more calm afternoon naps. No more chewing on his toys without Joey taking them away. Life has changed for Alex.
Every afternoon Joey chases Alex and bites his legs, tail and whatever else he can get, while Alex growls the whole time--running from one end of the living room to the other--back and forth, back and forth. Is this normal? We have never had two dogs before. Only one well-behaved quiet dog that listens. I sure hope we didn't make a mistake. Did we?

I lovelovelove your dogs. I would take either one in a second. What a couple of good looking boys...so fun.
