Fire Department's Ladies Party 2009

Aloha!

The 2009 FFFD Ladies Party was held on February 28. Ed (Eki) and Kim (Kimo) served on the party committee along with four other couples. They chose a Hawaiian theme. The location was the armory and catered by a Texas BBQ restaurant. We started our day at 10:00 a.m. by moving one of the fire trucks to the armory--I followed Ed. We then decorated along with the other couples...it was like a wedding all over again!

We came back around 5:00 p.m. before the festivities were to start at 6:00 p.m. As people came in the door, the women were greeted with a lei (shipped fresh from Hawaii).
Then they proceeded on to sign-in and the women signed up for door prizes. They were then ushered to the picture taking area--by the fire truck.


Then on to the the appetizers and cash bar.


After social hour, dinner was served! First, a salad, then either BBQ ribs & brisket or chicken along with scalloped potatoes, green beans, and a bun. A cheese cake bar was the dessert with various toppings. The awards presentation was at 8:00. This included years of service awards and the "Pink Pig" award. Let me explain the "Pink Pig" award. Basically, for lack of better explanation it's the "Idiot of the Year" award. And I am proud to say, my husband, Ed got it for 2008...so it was his year to present it. He would either observe fellow fire fighters doing dumb things throughout the year or they would report to him and he would put all of these dumb things in his "Pink Pig" notebook. This year four firefighters were brought up on stage for various dumb acts: closing the garage door on a mop bucket and the ladder truck; during a search and rescuing screaming like a little kid when a turkey flew out of the deep grass; throwing sand on the highway and falling on his rear end--after saying "this is how to do it". The winner was.......drum roll please...Dave! He was backing the ladder truck in and was holding the garage door opener and pushed the button...closing the door on the truck. So Dave was handed the "Pink Pig" award and has the pleasure of taking notes for the award next year.

After the awards,all the door prizes were given out to the women,along with the center pieces which were fresh pineapple! Then came the DJ which included dancing and karaoke. Finally at midnight, which is about 2-3 hours after my bedtime, everyone left and we proceeded to clean up--which included undecorating, taking tables and chairs down along with the stage, sweeping, etc and of course returning the fire truck to the fire station. It was a long night but worth it.
