The Transmission

We knew when we bought Kayla's car it had transmission issues. The car couldn't be driven in overdrive. So, Kayla couldn't go past 55 mph on the highway and also, she could never go on the interstate. Well, for a new driver that was o.k. We anticipated that the time would come, sooner or later, for a new transmission. Knowing this is a big expense, we were hoping for later.

So, Kayla continued driving her car. Here and there Ed may have replaced a part or two, no problem. He continuously kept an eye on the transmission and everything still seemed to be working.

My dad called and informed Ed of someone who had the same problem with his car and that it was only a clip that was replaced in the transmission. Since, my dad is a Parts Manager for a Ford dealership, he knows the ins and outs of parts and frequently talks to mechanics about mechanical issues. He sent the part...a tiny, tiny clip.

So, last Thursday, after work Ed worked over 4 hours taking the transmission apart, marking Xs on a large piece of card board (so he knew how to replace the bolts), reading a diagram and conversing back and forth with my dad...who then talked to the mechanic...he got the transmission apart. He was quite nervous about replacing the part and getting it back together the way it was.

Then, on Friday he worked another 5 plus hours, replaced the tiny, tiny clip and put the transmission back together. And...ta da!!! It worked. Kayla's car can now be driven in overdrive, she can now drive on the interstate, and she should get better gas mileage. So no expensive replacing of a transmission. Cross our fingers.
